About Dylan

Hi my name is Dylan, and I play the guitar! I have been playing guitar since 2014 and teaching private guitar lessons since 2020. I have graduated from studying jazz guitar at Vanier College, and I am well-versed in many other genres such as rock, funk, metal, classical, etc. I also have quite a bit of experience in tutoring fellow classmates in subjects like music theory and ear training. I made this ad simply because I want to share my knowledge of music with those eager to learn! Teaching Experience: ● Music teacher at Ecole de Musique Lilianne in Deux-Montagnes (July 2021 - July 2024) ● Tutor for music theory and ear training students at Vanier College (September 2019 - June 2022) ● Private guitar lessons for all ages and levels in Montreal and the greater Montreal area (Winter 2018/2019 - Present) ● Teaching ukulele at Mountainview Elementary School as an after-school activity run by 4 Korners charity organization in Deux-Montagnes. Performance Experience: ● Playing bass in “Roxic” for Canada Day festivities in Deux-Montagnes (July 2023 - July 2024) ● Playing guitar and bass in various rock/alternative/indie/pop/fusion/jazz/blues bands such as: “Minusha”, “Roxic”, “Dwane Dixon Band”, “Horizons”, “Simply Chloe”, “Space Ensemble” (2022 - present) ● Playing guitar in Vanier College UB (Universal Break) concerts (2019 - 2022) ● Singing as a tenor in Vanier College choir concerts (2018 - 2019) ● Singing and playing guitar at “Open Mic in 2mo” events and other solo or duo performances (2018 - present) ● Playing guitar at Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board gala (2016) Education: Vanier College, Montreal, Quebec ● Music Program (Jazz Guitar) - DEC diploma received August 2018 - June 2022 ● Audio Recording Technology Program - AEC diploma received August 2017 - February 2018

About the lesson

I know that for many people starting off, it can be a little scary, but I will make the learning process as interesting, educational, and painless as I can. My approach is naturally laid-back, but also insightful. I believe in catering to the students' needs and desires for learning, whether that be a more serious or casual approach. Ultimately, I aim to carefully guide them to advance and always be open to learn new things, no matter how simple or ambitious. I believe that learning to play the guitar can be a lot like working out and meditating at the same time... Some things that you learn will stick with you forever, but other things need to be practiced regularly for you to stay in shape. The meditating side is not the physical playing of the instrument, but the deep understanding of how it works, and the different sounds it can make. Don't forget, music is an art too, and art is all about being creative, expressing yourself, and finding what sounds speak to you!

Dylan and I have been friends since 2013, and I have had the distinct honour of performing songs with him on multiple occasions during our high school days. Our musical journey began with Variety Shows at school, which led us to perform at the 2016 Sir Wilfred Laurier Starfest Gala, and finally at an Open Mic Night at a local cafe.

Of all the years that I have known and worked with him, Dylan has only ever been a friendly, supportive, and genuine person. He possesses an incredible ability to learn songs on the fly and has an impressive capacity to play songs from a variety of genres and styles with ease.

What I remember the most about working with Dylan, is that anytime I began to feel doubtful, nervous, or self-conscious about my ability to sing a song, he was always willing to change or adjust the songs to fit my vocal range or comfort levels, or simply relieve my anxieties by reassuring me of my abilities.

As a teacher, I could not recommend this man enough. He has the patience, the attitude, and the skills to do so.

Having worked with Dylan teaching elementary school kids Ukulele, I am able to commend him on his patience and can attest to his skill playing both ukulele and guitar (He was definitely the better of the two of us). One on one, he’s able to fully devote himself to one’s learning and he does so with ease. I’m proud to be able to say I’ve worked with him as a team.
