Taking guitar tutorials in Nigeria

There are different opportunities for people interested in learning the guitar to do so in Nigeria. Regardless of your age, style of choice or whatever you are looking to achieve from guitar lessons, you’ll find a suitable guitar tutor to help achieve your dreams.

There are too many types of guitar to name them all. However, they can be split into 4 broad categories; acoustic guitar, classical guitar, electric guitar, and bass guitar.

For those just venturing into guitar and interested in guitar lessons for beginners, It will be useful to know the major differences between the four categories of guitar listed above. Generally speaking, acoustic and classical guitars have similar shapes with large hollow bodies and are often played without electrical connections. While electric and bass guitars don’t have this hollow body and are slightly longer. They are played whilst connected to electrical mains and have a large array of sounds.

Some major differences between classical guitars and acoustic are:

  • The long neck (fretboard) of an acoustic guitar is much narrower than that of the classical guitar;
  • Acoustic guitars use steel strings whereas classical guitars have nylon strings;
  • They produce different sounds; Acoustic guitars are usually played with pop or indie songs, while classical is usually associated with Flamenco
  • Classical guitars are usually slightly cheaper than acoustic guitars

As regards electric and bass guitars, the differences are more notable.

  • The electric guitar has a more harmonic or melodic role and is used to play riffs and keep rhythms in a song. While the bass guitar works much more closely with the drums than the electric guitar to keep a stable rhythm in songs.
  • Bass guitars usually only have four strings, unlike a standard electric guitar which has 6;
  • Electric guitars are usually smaller than Bass guitars
  • Bass guitars play notes an octave lower and have lower tunings
  • Guitar solos are more common with electric guitars while bass guitars are commonly used for supporting roles.
