About Harry

I'm A Full Time Freelance Musician with over 20 years of Playing Experience. I Studied Music as a Bachelors Degree at Goldsmiths University covering a wide variety of studies: Jazz theory, Improvisation, Performance and Guitar. I've released music (under an alias) through an independent label (Naim Records) alongside Mercury nominated artists, (Eska, Sons of Kemet) and have performed at major venues/festivals including Bestival, Glastonbury, The South Bank Centre, the Barbican, The Jazz Cafe & Royal Festival Hall. My teaching experience spans over six years. I've taught in schools and corporate setting as well as conducting my own successful full-time private tuition business from my home studio and online. During the pandemic I became adept and proficient at providing a quality online learning experience. All lessons are conducted with top sound quality, professional microphones and recording software. I also provide personal Google Drive Folders which store all your lessons in video and note form so you can go back and relearn at any time!

About the lesson

I'd describe myself as a modern guitar player who mixes traditional approaches to learning with some contemporary techniques. I'm flexible in my ability to play many different genres on both the Acoustic and Electric guitar to a high level. On the Electric: Blues, Pop, funk, Soul, Rock/Indie, Jazz/Latin & African styles. On the Acoustic: Folk, Blues, Pop, World & African styles. I focus on three key components in any style... Fluency and rhythmic accuracy - Being able to play something all the way through and in time is crucial but it's the number one thing that I notice students struggle with. Theory - Knowledge of what it is you're actually doing on the instrument and why it works is the key to becoming a musician and expanding your ability on the instrument. Technique/execution - Yes you can play it but can you make it sing? The most significant factor in what makes a guitarist sound good is their technique. focus on this and you will sound infinitely better than if you practised 100 scales and arpeggios at breakneck speed. My lesson plans can range from encouraging free form creativity to strict chord and scale practice depending on the desires of the student or what I think the student will benefit most from. I teach Grades 1-8 Via RGT, Songs, Improvisation, Songwriting & Theory Additionally as a singer I can help you with learning how to sing and play in unison, finding the right key signatures for your voice and advising you on what's best to play when accompanying yourself on the guitar.

Perfect! Harry is an amazing teacher. The lesson was online and the sound quality was superb. He used professional microphones and his electric guitar was connected directly to the computer with a great sound. He instinctively homed in on my interests and we began working on one of my favourite songs! I would highly recommend anyone to take a lesson from Harry!

Harry has been teaching my busy 7 year old daughter guitar for the last 5 months. She had no previous experience and can already play some parts of her favourite songs. He makes her feel comfortable, safe and she can be herself. He makes her short videos to show and explain what they’ve learnt each lesson so she can practice at home which are fantastic. Harry makes the lessons fun because it’s tailored for her. I would recommend Harry for any beginner!

Harry has been an absolutely brilliant teacher to our seven year old son for the last eight months. His teaching strikes the perfect balance between musical discipline and fun. He thinks deeply about the pieces or exercises he introduces each week, ensuring they're a great fit for our son's abilities and concentration span. My partner treated himself to a lesson too and thoroughly enjoyed it.... so we can recommend Harry wholeheartedly for both adult and child tuition.

I've been having lessons with Harry for a good few months now. I had previously played in bands but hadn't picked up the guitar in years and wanted to find a tutor who could get me back up to speed, fill in some gaps, and teach me some theory along the way too. Harry explains everything clearly and patiently and does so in a fun and intuitive way. My guitar playing has improved a ton learning with Harry and my understanding of what I'm doing and why is growing. Harry goes that extra mile, at the end of a session he'll record a video recap that you can reference when practicing which I've found invaluable. He also tailors each lessons to my personal music tastes so I always look forward to every session. I'd recommend Harry to anyone wanting to learn from an extremely knowledgable and talented musician and songwriter.
