About Bernard

My name is Bernard McLaughlin and I am based in the Highlands of Scotland UK.

I have been teaching guitar for over 30yrs. Electric, acoustic, classical and because my career has been mostly teaching I teach most styles and standards, (mostly because I tailor my teaching to the genre my pupils like most....which is varied.).

I love teaching beginners because there is something great about seeing a pupil go from zero to hero on the guitar. Being part of that journey has always been fulfilling.

Equally, helping experienced guitarists that are stuck in a rut - very common and I love helping them break out of the repetitive bad habits they have generated, cleaning up their technique and unlocking the fretboard for them.

About the lesson

Some of my pupils are exam oriented and some just want to learn for fun. All of them get top quality tuition that is geared towards them individually. My lessons include video support to enhance your practice sessions along with screenshots and handouts.

I have experience of teaching pupils with dyslexia so this should not be seen as a barrier to learning the guitar. I am a fully qualified music/guitar teacher with level 6 licentiate in music teaching along with a Master's degree in Composition, so feel assured you are in safe hands.

I started my guitar journey at 62 as a complete novice having had no real interest in music previously.

While I am no rock star, I have made such good progress that my family look at me with mixture of pride and disbelief (in a good way)

Ben shows great patience and while being extremely supportive also gives honest feedback, always in a good humoured way. He continually pushes you beyond your comfort zone building confidence in your ability.

The journey for me is far from over and I am extremely lucky to have found a tutor of Ben’s calibre.
