About Ben

I grew up in a family of musicians in Tasmania and became began classical guitar lessons at seven years old, electric guitar at ten and developed a deep, lifelong passion for the instrument. I began teaching guitar when I was 17 in my grandma’s garage.

My teen years were spent playing in bands. I went on to study classical guitar at the University of Sydney, where I trained with world-class guitarists who helped refine my technique. This allowed me to play more efficiently, comfortably, and without pain or injury—an essential skill for anyone practicing seriously. I began teaching at a studio and finding my own private students and at one point was teaching 35 students per week.

After graduating, I spent several years studying jazz guitar while performing both classical and jazz music in Sydney. Around this time, I also began learning harmonica and singing, which led me to perform blues and cover music in bars across Australia for several years. During this time traveling Australia, I continued teaching and developing my approach. Alongside this, I worked as a session musician on electric guitar, playing in soul, rock, and reggae bands and joining groups for festival performances in Queensland.

In recent years, I’ve returned to my passion for classical and jazz guitar, while also diving deeply into Brazilian music. I now live in Brazil, where I collaborate with local musicians, compose my own music, play concerts and continue to teach in person and online.

About the lesson

I have over 20 years of experience teaching guitar and specialize in quickly identifying each student’s level and the exact steps needed to improve. Whether you’re a complete beginner, an intermediate player, or a professional looking to take your playing to the next level, I can help you progress efficiently.

After completing my university studies, I lived in Sydney where I taught around 35 students per week, developing and refining my teaching approach. Today, I work with fewer students so I can offer highly personalized, tailor-made lessons focused on each individual’s goals.

Lessons can include learning specific songs, improving music theory, or developing skills such as improvisation. My goal is to support you in achieving real, meaningful progress on the guitar while enjoying the process.
