About Jon

I am an award winning classical guitarist, and my pedagogical methodologies are modeled after the Segovia Method. It is my belief that form, technique, and discipline are the necessary attributes that make it possible for the guitarist to attain freedom of expression while producing the most desirable quality of tone. In addition to the classical guitar, I have generated the likes of world-class guitarists such as Stanton Adcock of Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers band.

As a photographer, I find that the one who places him or herself in positions where few dare to go, whether those places be location or environment, is the one who will attain the shot that stands the test of time; the shot that will find its place in the minds and hearts of the viewer in a lasting and meaningful way. Photography is more than pointing and shooting; filters and effects. It is the creative vision to foresee the outcome of thoughtful and well placed timing. Though a blind squirrel can find a nut sometimes, good photography doesn't come easy. Like the classical guitar, form, technique, and discipline are critical ingredients to the success of the photographer, whether the photographer is shooting professionally or for the pure sake of art.

I enjoy the solo aspect of performing and teaching guitar, as well as shooting and teaching photography. I do not rely on others to get the job done. It is my individual responsibility to achieve greatness in all I do. It is my personal drive for excellence and no one else can do it for me. The results of my work is up to me. Because of this, I apply my whole self to everything I do. Quality before quantity. While expertise is a goal to achieve, excellence is a way of life that is ongoing and is forever sought. I believe it is important to share our knowledge and experiences so that the world will become a better place. Knowledge not shared is dead knowledge. Knowledge shared is applied and living. Witnessing the process a student experiences is the greatest reward for a good teacher. Knowing that I am a part of that process gives me a great sense of worth and value. No monetary reward can replace that worth and value.

About the lesson

The student's goals are the primary objective. Having said that, it is crucial to the learning process for the teacher to evaluate the student's aptitude and drive. Once that is established, the teacher develops a clear and transparent learning objective that is comprehensible for the student, so that the student and teacher can begin the constructive progression toward those goals. Every student is different. Every student's learning process is unique. It is my job to discover the appropriate method for each student based on each student's idiosyncrasies. Students have expectations of their teachers. I, as a teacher, have expectations of my students. Together, we form a relationship that is conducive to a successful and enjoyable learning experience. One that is free of inhibition and criticism. One that is rich with encouragement and constructive critique.
