About Madison

Hello guitarists!

My name is Madison, and I'm a jazz and classical guitarist in OC. I teach guitar and ukulele at a studio and at my students' homes. I have been teaching for 4 years. The teaching methods that I have developed over the years keep students excited to learn, and keep them advancing quickly. Each of my students is unique and I treat them all individually. I will teach the student how to do exactly what he or she wants to learn. I always give my students a way to contact me so if the student has questions or if the student would like to send me a video between lessons to show me their progress or ask for criticism, I encourage it! I have taught beginners and advanced students of all ages, in many different styles of music. I am stupendoulsy excited to meet new students and begin helping them become the musicians they want to be! Please contact me if you have any questions. :)

I love to see when something clicks with a student and they are finally able to do something they've been working on, or when they learn something new that they've been wanting to play. Watching the student progress and enjoy studying music is a huge reward for me.

I started teaching in high school. Friends and neighbors who saw me play asked me to give them lessons, so I began giving lessons at my parent's house when I was younger and now at my apartment in Fullerton. I currently teach at Harmony Studios in Anaheim.

I have studied music for 12 years. I am currently studying Jazz Guitar at Fullerton College.

About the lesson

I first want to learn about the student, their musical background, how they learn best, what they like to listen to, and what they want to learn from the lessons. Some students want to learn a lot of repertoire, some students may need to work on technique more than others, some students want to learn how to improvise solos, etc. Once I know the student a little bit, I make a plan for them, setting goals for them and giving them something new to work on each lesson so they are constantly learning something new and becoming a better musician.

I have worked with students as young as 7 years old and as old as 48 years old. I have taught beginners with no previous musical experience, as well as advanced classical and jazz guitar students.

Don't be afraid to try out multiple teachers. It's very important to find a teacher that you really like that will really be able to help you get to where you want to be. You want to enjoy learning music, and the person you choose to learn from is a very big part of your learning experience. Take a lesson or two with a teacher you think you might like, and if they're not right for you, maybe try another. My teachers have all been people that I really trusted and truly enjoyed being around. I always looked forward to lessons and rehearsals. Just remember, if you can't find a teacher that you really like, don't give up! Learning how to play music is a wonderful thing when it's with the right teacher.

I attended the concert of one of my favorite bands Kneebody recently. It was an incredible experience. It lit a fire under me and inspired me to play differently. It remined me why I do what I do.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider both where they want to be eventually and what they want to learn in that moment. Students should have their own idea of what they want to be able to do down the line and in the more immediate future so I can help get them there. Additionally, I want my students to tell me whenever they think of a song or something they want to learn right. If a student doesn't know exactly what they want, I will always introduce them to new directions and artists and give them some ideas of things they might want to check out or learn to play.

Details

I charge $50 for an hour for in person lessons at the student's home. I also give lessons over Skype for $25 for a half hour and $40 for an hour. I give discounted 30 minute trial lessons for $20 in person and $15 on Skype.
