About Grant

I have been playing guitar for over 15 years and have extensive knowledge of the instrument. My specialty is classical guitar, although I am fluent in various styles including rock and jazz.

My goal for guitar instruction is to form a relationship with a student and understand where they are at musically, what their musical goals are, and how they learn as an individual.

In lessons we will focus a lot on knowing your fretboard, proper technique, and of course: building your repertoire. I am a music theory nerd, and I believe that being able to read and write standard music notation is a huge benefit as a musician.

On top of my knowledge of guitar technique and performance, I have vast knowledge in Recording Arts and have a degree in Music Industry Studies from the University of Colorado at Denver.

My personal philosophy is that anyone can create and play music, and that it is a uniquely human experience that is meant to be shared. I find joy in instilling my passion for music into someone else, and seeing them perform and share their music.

While experiencing the joys of creating and playing music, I naturally wanted to share those joys with other people.

I have a degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in Music Industry Studies. I had private guitar lessons there for a few semesters. I have been recording and performing with bands since my graduation.

I am currently seeking a second degree (dual major) in Music Education and Classical Guitar Performance at Metropolitan State University where I will obtain a teaching license with the state for music instruction.

About the lesson

I first begin by seeing where the student is at musically, what their interests and goals are, and construct individual lesson plans for each student. Everyone learns differently and it is my goal to help you comprehend musical concepts.

I have worked with middle schoolers to middle aged adults on the guitar. Their experience and skill level have ranged from beginning to advanced. I am willing to help anyone who is willing to learn more about the instrument.

The guitar is a very complex instrument and a lot of people simply just don't know how to play it with a healthy technique, which can cause serious pain and distress throughout your body. Also, the ability to be able to read and write standard music notation is a huge benefit for the student, I know I learned the hard way by not being able to do it for quite a while. My abilities to teach how to read and write music, and my knowledge of music theory are hard to come across when seeking a guitar teacher.

Aside from guitar teaching and attending school for music, I record and produce music as well. I recently finished up a few albums for clients, jazz and rock, and will be releasing an album this year of my own that has been years in the making.
