About Michael
I've explored and enjoyed playing guitar for most of my life. I began my own journey at the age of 5, so I appreciate the value a good teacher can have on a beginner player, whether they're 5 or 85 years old. It's never to late to start playing. I employ a slow, patient approach that engages students to learn at their own pace. My goal is to get beginner players to start making music and enjoying the awesome instrument that is the guitar. I'm looking foward to sharing and passing on my knowledge to a new generation of guitar players.
I really wanted to pass on what I've learned to a new generation of guitar players. Guitar has played (pardon the pun) an important role in my life. I've made some great friendships through playing. I've strengthened they way I see myself, improved my self discipline, focus and accountability, and I've gained a sense of accomplishment -- all great traits that I've applied to other areas of my personal and professional life . And perhaps most improtantly, I've gotten a lot of joy out of playing and perform for others.
While I may not be university trained in guitar, I have taken lessons for a good portion of my life. In fact, I'm still engaged in lessons to both improve my playing abilities and to explore new musical styles.
I've been fortunate to study under some great guitar teachers, all of whom I've borrowed from their strengths as instructors and merged those traits into my own style.

I encourage new students to be patient, to take their time, and to manage their expectations when learning the guitar or any new instrument. No one becomes an expert overnight. However, I also like to learn about their musical interests and and then customize their lessons accordingly so they remain highly engaged, experience progress, and begin to gain confidence in their new abilities.
I work with all types of students. I'm open to working with students ages 5 to 85 (and beyond, if someone's interested).
I'd like to work with beginnners as well as those individuals who, perhaps, had taken lessons at one point in their lives and are looking to pick up the guitar again and resume their musical journey.
Meet with the teacher first and talk to them. Make sure he or she is someone you share common interests with and that you're comfortable with their personality, musical styles and interests, and most importantly, their approach to teaching guitar.
Really, anytime people are making music together. I enjoy all types of musical genres. Not only do I love performing in the various musical projects I'm involved in, but I also love to go out and listen to others perform live music.

Details
I charge $25 per half-hour lesson. This rate is negotiable if you purchase a package of lessons (5, 10, 15, etc), or if you wish to have an hour lesson. However, I encourage all new students to start with a half-hour lesson format.
I DO NOT provide the instrument. However, I provide all learning materials, which are yours to keep.
Within a reasonable distance from my home, I'm will to travel to you to give the lesson in your home. I'm also okay with students coming to my home (I'm based in Westlake, very near the city's rec center facility off of Center Ridge). I would also entertain, weather permitting, meeting in a centralized public location, such as a local park.
And I will also entertain virtual lessons via Zoom, or another video hosting service.
