Learning the guitar with Dave has been an incredible journey. He put my nerves at ease during the first lesson, as I haven't done a 1-1 lesson on anything in a long time. I am in my late 30's and cannot read music, I don't know music theory, and it's my first stab in my adult life of learning the guitar. He gives helpful, gentle feedback and does not make you feel silly when you mess something up or need some more understanding on something.

Dave is very good at explaining things, or breaking things down so that someone like me without a musical background can understand. Taking lessons with him has only deepened my desire to continue with this hobby and I genuinely enjoy going to lessons and learning things that I would not think of or be able to understand on my own.

I like that when you leave, he gives you something to practice, and there is a follow up e-mail with a link to view session notes and any relevant links or documents, so you can look back on each session.

He's been very communicative and accommodating for my scheduling needs that often change due to my job. If you are even considering taking lessons, just do it!!!!

Dave is a gift to aspiring guitarists of all levels and ages. I had been learning chords of favorite songs on my own for a couple years after picking up guitar in my 30s. Dave quickly assessed where I was, and showed me techniques and tricks I couldn't have discovered on my own to take my playing to the next level. And we had lots of fun!

Dave's thoughtful, student-goal-centered ukulele instruction has been a really fun experience! over a couple weeks I can play the ukulele well enough to sing a few songs to my family.

I'm loving my lessons with Dave, and I'm making a lot of progress. I've taken guitar lessons with 3 teachers in the last ~5 years, and these lessons are easily the most valuable. I feel like it only took 1 or 2 lessons for Dave to figure out my current skill level and start building from there. Most importantly, he's actually teaching me to play guitar from first principles, rather than teaching me to play specific songs. I highly recommend him!

Dave is an absolute gem of a teacher. I'd been stuck for a long time on the chasm between "knows a few chords and the tabs to a couple songs" and "actually feeling confident that I can play". It's only been a few weeks, but I'm starting to cross that bridge and maybe even start considering myself a guitar player.

Before our first lesson he asked me for a playlist of songs I like to listen to, which he's woven into our practice sessions so that they suddenly feel attainable. This has also made listening to music way more fun. I notice riffs in songs and think "How would I have done that?" and can now fumble out my own version with a bit of effort. He knows when to let me mess around and figure something out for myself, and he knows when to step in and show me what to do. He even takes the time to record a short recap / practice video for me so that I know exactly what to work on for next time.

I always leave our lessons in the best mood, and Wednesday evenings are now the most fiercely guarded block on my calendar.

Music has always been a huge part of my life, and so over the years I've tried many times to learn an instrument. Guitar, bass, piano, saxophone, harmonica, voice... none of them really panned out for me. When I look back on it now, I see there were two things that always stopped me from getting anywhere:

The first one was: when I tried to teach myself I felt too overwhelmed by all of the different advice out there.

And the second thing was: I never clicked with any of the teachers I found. They were all cool people, but I struggled to learn the way they wanted me to learn, and I couldn't stay engaged with the material.

My guitar lessons with David were the exact opposite of those things. They were exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. David has a very egoless teaching style, and I was really humbled by how much thought he put into every aspect of the lessons. We did four virtual lessons over Zoom, over the course of about a month and a half. He gave me exercises to practice, and notes about what we went over.

In the beginning I did my best to explain my challenges to him when it comes to learning, motivation, practicing, and confidence. Shockingly, he then took all of that into account, and I never once felt like I was "letting him down" or that I wasn't "where I should be." It's very rare for me to feel that relaxed about learning something. I felt that I had the permission and the space to learn how I learn, and to follow the parts that are interesting to me. Because of that, I felt that I wanted to practice, and I did.

I have rarely, if ever, met someone who takes the business of teaching as seriously as David. I can't imagine how different my life would be if I had encountered more teachers like David, in my life.

Dave is a patient and encouraging teacher who's great at tailoring lessons to my level and interests. I leave every lesson excited to go home and practice!
