About Jason

For me, teaching guitar is about more than just learning chords and scales it’s about helping you discover how much fun it can be to play music. I’ve been passionate about guitar and music for many years, both as a teacher and as a musician performing in bands. I love helping students find music they enjoy, build their confidence and develop their own style as a guitarist.

I am a qualified and experienced music teacher, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz and Improvisation from the University of Melbourne, as well as a Master of Teaching specialising in Classroom and Instrumental Music.

I have several years of experience teaching guitar to students of different ages and abilities, both through individual lessons and in school environments. I have also prepared students for music examinations and performances, while adapting lessons to suit each student's individual goals and interests.

Alongside teaching, I have many years of experience playing guitar in bands and performing live. I currently perform regularly around Melbourne, giving me practical experience that I can bring directly into my lessons.

Whether you are picking up a guitar for the first time, returning to playing after a break, or looking to take your skills further, I want my lessons to be relaxed, encouraging and enjoyable. Most importantly, I want you to leave each lesson feeling like you have learned something new and are excited to pick up the guitar again.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching guitar is centred around making lessons enjoyable, practical and tailored to each student's individual goals and interests. I believe students learn best when they are playing music they enjoy while gradually developing the technical and theoretical skills needed to become confident musicians.

I adapt my teaching style to suit each student, whether they are picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to develop their existing skills. Lessons can include learning songs, guitar technique, chords, scales, music theory, improvisation, ear training and performance skills. I also encourage students to develop their own musical interests and explore different styles of music.

Lessons are typically 30–60 minutes, depending on the student's age, level and needs. I provide structured lessons while remaining flexible enough to adjust the content according to the student's progress and interests.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz and Improvisation from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Teaching specialising in Secondary Classroom and Instrumental Music.
Alongside teaching, I have many years of experience playing guitar in bands and performing live. I am currently perform regularly, which allows me to bring real-world performance experience into my lessons.

My lessons are suitable for beginners through to more experienced guitarists, including children, teenagers and adults. My goal is to help every student become a more confident and capable guitarist while developing a genuine enjoyment and passion for playing music.
