About Luke
I’m a music graduate, guitarist, teacher and music-technology developer with more than 30 years of experience playing, performing, recording and working with guitar technology.
My background combines traditional musicianship with a long-standing fascination with what happens when guitars meet technology. Alongside electric guitar, improvisation and music theory, I have extensive practical experience with guitar synthesis, MIDI guitar, modelling, effects, DAWs, plug-ins, MIDI control and complex digital guitar systems.
I also work professionally with music technology, including software development and work with MIDI Guitar 3, so my knowledge of digital guitar goes considerably beyond simply using the equipment.
Whether you want to become a stronger improviser, understand the fretboard and harmony more deeply, develop your technique, explore guitar synthesis, or finally make sense of a complicated digital rig, lessons are tailored around what you actually want to achieve.
I teach online and welcome students from intermediate players looking to progress through to experienced guitarists wanting to explore more specialised musical or technological territory.

My lessons are individually designed around each student's goals rather than following a fixed syllabus. I've been both a student and teacher of music for most of my life, and I believe the best lessons combine preparation with the flexibility to follow interesting musical ideas when they arise.
***Guitar & improvisation***
I can help with advanced improvisation, fretboard knowledge, applied harmony and theory, technique, phrasing and developing a more individual improvisational language.
My own musical interests include the approaches of players such as Allan Holdsworth, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Alex Machacek and Tim Miller, particularly the relationship between harmony, fretboard organisation and improvisational freedom.
This does not mean you need to be an advanced jazz or fusion player. Lessons are adapted to your current ability, musical interests and goals.
***Digital guitar & music technology***
This is an area in which I offer something rather different from conventional guitar tuition. I can provide practical tuition and consultation covering MIDI guitar, guitar synthesis, Roland/BOSS GK systems, MIDI Guitar 3, modelling, effects, plug-ins, DAW integration, MIDI control, signal routing and the design and troubleshooting of sophisticated digital guitar rigs.
The emphasis isn't simply on learning how equipment works. I'm particularly interested in helping guitarists use technology creatively and integrate it naturally into their playing, recording and performance.
Lessons are a minimum of one hour and are conducted online.
