About Olivia

I've always wanted to teach. I was a committed classroom volunteer throughout my time at school, helping out with GCSE and A-level students, and have worked as a volunteer reading helper for the charity Beanstalk, where I worked with Key Stage Two children who needed that bit of extra support. As an undergraduate, I took a module in teaching writing, and got some wonderful feedback. I've been called a 'natural teacher'; I hope this is true!

I'm utterly in love with all things literature and writing, and I'm keen to pass on my enthusiasm and knowledge. I'm neurodivergent, and having learnt the hard way that not all lessons are accessible, I'm intent on making sure my lessons are. I work at the student's pace, and put in place any special requirements they may have. We learn better when we're relaxed and feel we're in a safe space. I'm always determined to facilitate a bespoke environment, in which a student can grow through having their specific needs fulfilled.

Whether you're a student or just someone who loves words and would like to learn a bit about creative writing, it would be great to work with you.

About the lesson

I'm a Creative Writing graduate with a first-class BA (Hons) and an MA (awarded with Distinction) under her belt. I also received two A*s in my English GCSEs and an A* at A-level English Language & Literature, so I know how to please those examiners too! I specialise in poetry, a key component of both GCSE and A-level courses. I have experience with younger children, too.

I offer hour- and half-hour lessons, depending on the student's preferences. These can involve looking at exam questions/past papers, discussing set texts, providing feedback on written work of all genres, doing writing exercises, or just generally helping with confidence. My lessons are relaxed, accessible, neurodivergent-friendly, and (hopefully) good fun. Bring along that question you're stuck on, that set text you just can't crack, your UCAS Personal Statement, that story or poem you're writing. I'd love to meet you.
