About Alessia
Hello! My name is Alessia and I am from Denver, Colorado. I lived in Portugal for about 16 months and studied Portuguese at Brigham Young University where I received my advanced level language certificate from the ACTFL organization. I have worked as a language teacher in both Portuguese and English for the past 3.5 years at the Missionary Training Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am passionate about teaching and I have the training and skills to help students push their limits in language ability. I have experience with all levels of students from knowing only a few words in a language to being fully conversational.

I was trained and use techniques from the ACTFL organization (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.) This means that I aim for about 90% in language from me and my students each session. We use comprehensible input strategies where we will use pictures and act things out if there is an unknown word. My lessons will have memorizing preparation work so that our time together can be spent practicing the vocabulary in conversations rather than memorizing words.
