About Ria

I am an experienced primary teacher with over 15 years in the classroom, holding Qualified Teacher Status and currently working towards accredited teacher status with the British Dyslexia Association. Throughout my career, I have also worked as a SENCo, supporting children with a wide range of additional needs and working closely with families to help every child feel understood, valued, and capable.

My passion for supporting children with dyslexia and literacy difficulties is both professional and personal. As a parent of two neurodiverse children, I have seen first-hand how challenging school can feel when the right support is not in place. These experiences have given me a deeper understanding, empathy, and determination to make learning more accessible and positive for every child.

Over the years, I have noticed that many dyslexic learners do not receive the consistent, tailored support they need to truly thrive. This is what motivates me to teach in a more personalised way — helping children build confidence, develop strategies that work for them, and experience success in reading and spelling at their own pace.

About the lesson

What a Lesson Looks Like

I offer one-to-one online tutoring sessions (£35) designed to support children who may be finding reading, spelling and writing particularly challenging. Lessons are especially helpful for children who read slowly or hesitantly, feel anxious about schoolwork, or are beginning to lose confidence in their abilities.

Sessions are calm, structured and tailored to each child. They are one hour long with lots of short activities in which your child will easily find success. Most teaching is through playing games and utilising multi-sensory methods.

We focus on:

Reading skills

Spelling development

Memory skills

Comprehension

Handwriting

To make sure support is carefully tailored, we begin with three initial assessment sessions (£35 per session). During this time, I get to know your child’s strengths, interests and learning preferences, and where they may need extra support. I can also take into account any helpful information from school or other professionals.

Using this insight, I create personalised targets and a structured programme designed to build on strengths, support areas of difficulty, and help your child feel successful step by step.
