Super tutor

Jarad is one of the best tutors in English. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Jarad

I am a lifelong learner and teacher, and I am dedicated to my students and their success. My goal is for everyone I tutor to gain the knowledge and confidence they need to not only succeed in school, but to achieve success in life. This is done by inspiring confidence, building public speaking skills, and promoting curiosity. I have been a tutor for over 10 years in all core subjects, working with students ranging from age 7-18. Most of my work has been with neurodiverse middle schoolers, specializing in ADHD and Asperger's. I've also taught English and tutored at two public schools in Glendale, CA. Currently, I am a professional writer, history buff in my spare time, and a certified nerd for over 30 years. With tutoring, I find one-on-one interactions can often be the best way to connect with my students, but I am proficient in classroom settings and find benefits to group sessions as well. My target subjects include: English, history, and essay writing for any subject. I have tutored in math up to Algebra 2. I am available for college essay applications. Beyond classroom education, my focus is teaching students how to find their inner voice, inspire creativity, and grow their self-confidence, especially in social situations. With this mindset, I have co-founded a company that focuses on these traits through play. The goal is to enrich and continually develop academic and social skills through the magical world of Dungeons & Dragons, a collaborative roleplaying game. We are not teaching what to learn; rather we are inspiring them to become self-sufficient learners and that have the tools they need to be confident, capable, and creative on the lifelong quest for knowledge. My company has successfully been doing this for 5 years now, and I have loved every second of it.

About the lesson

I have prepared lessons for all ages with a focus on middle schoolers. All subjects are welcome here, but English and history - with a focus on essay writing and test preparation - are closest to my heart. I also help with college essay applications.

I love being interactive with students, focusing our sessions on questions. Asking and receiving them. I believe curiosity is the key to success and I use real world experience as an actor, comedian, writer, and film and history lover to interrogate subjects and engage this trait in my students and their work.

I like to infuse games into my lesson plans, because education doesn't have to be boring! If you can gain knowledge and have fun? That's the sweet spot.

Jarad has been helping my two teenage daughters for the past several years from junior high to high school with everything from creative writing to writing personal essays for entry to private high school and now to college! Jarad is a superb teacher and mentor because of his ability to establish an easy rapport with my kids by really listening to them and encouraging them to be their authentic selves. They really like that he does not tell them what to do but rather asks them questions that help them to figure out how to respond to an analytical essay prompt or complete a creative writing assignment. Jarad does all of this with kindness and grace and words can't express how grateful I am for Jarad's help with my children! He's been a godsend to our family and we would be lost without his support.
