About Sheena
I am a University of London graduate and read English Literature. I have a genuine love of the English language and all its uses and want to impart this knowledge to younger generations.
Working as a professional tutor for over 15 years, I have a real passion for education and working with children, with a view of working closely with them to build confidence and attain (and surpass) their learning goals.
My focus, as a full-time tutor, has been on teaching English and Verbal Reasoning to students aged 5 to 16, across the Key Stages of the National Curriculum up to GCSE level.
I also have significant experience tutoring children preparing for their 11+ exams for grammar and private school entry. As such, I have a deep knowledge of the various syllabi, exam formats and the standards required to pass and/or achieve good grades

After establishing a child’s current ability in the chosen topic, I work in partnership with parents to tailor a tutoring package for their intended goals and aspirations. I carefully consider areas identified for improvement and introduce more advanced and challenging work at a pace suitable for that individual child so that they do not lose confidence or feel overwhelmed.
I monitor child progress against their tutoring plan, adjusting plans as needed and keeping parents and children informed of changes. I set regular informal assessments and homework tasks that I assess, and provide constructive feedback on a weekly basis.
I am friendly and approachable and have a proactive and engaging teaching style. I encourage dialogue with my tutees and parents as, in my experience, this fosters a positive tutoring experience.
