About Hannah

I have always wanted to be a teacher, it was a dream of mine since I was very young. After Matric, I began studying Montessori Education for ages 3-6 and received my Diploma in 2016. In 2017, I started studying my Bachelor of Education for Early Childhood Education and Foundation Phase. I graduated in 2020 during my apprenticeship year in Johannesburg. In my apprenticeship, I learned so much about being the teacher I want to be. I worked hard in that year to graduate and earn a promotion at the school I was working at. I finally had my own class in 2021. My students described me as their 'second-mom', 'fun', 'spontaneous', and 'forgiving'. I am still in contact with my students and their parents because of the impact they had on me.
This year, 2022, I decided I wanted to gain more experience outside the classroom but still be involved in learning. I travelled around South East Asia this year till March because in June I will be travelling overseas to complete my Masters. So from March till end of May, I'm hoping to be a tutor and meet so many new students who I can teach and learn from!

About the lesson

I believe in hands-on, concrete learning in foundational years. I enjoy finding and making resources to fit my learners' abilities and likes. I also believe in failing forward - if you don't understand stand it at first or make mistakes, that's okay, rather use that experience and learn from it to get stronger and more confident in your ability.
I have experience in teaching phonics using THRASS and teaching reading to individuals or groups. Each lesson will include revision of sight words, reading vocabulary words that will be found in the guided book that will be read by the learner. We can also try dictation if the learner needs help with spelling to guide them towards using the correct spelling choices in their writing. I also like making learning fun with my learners by playing language games that help broaden their parts of speech knowledge. I am qualified to teach up to Grade 3, however if a learner in higher grades needs help with their foundational skills, I am will to adjust my content to accomodate them.
I also have experience in teaching handwriting and strengthening a child's spatial awareness to guide their handwriting and neatness in their Literacy books.
