About Austin

I am a Yoga Alliance certified teacher so I am well-versed in the postures, alignment, anatomy, pranayama, and meditation. More importantly, I have practiced hundreds of hours of yoga, so I know how the postures should feel in your body—an intuition that only experience can build.

About the lesson

Yoga makes my world go round! It’s been a gift to my life and one I want to share with others! Whether you want to master your handstand or a basic introduction to the practice, I’m your guy. My classes mainly follow a vinyasa structure, but I throw in some elements of hatha and yin as well.

What age did you start doing Yoga? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.
I started practicing yoga when I was 15 years old (7 years ago). I had recently quit playing tennis and I was searching for something less competitive. That's when I found hot yoga:)
What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?
In addition to yoga, I like experimenting with new workouts at the gym~ anything that challenges me to move in new ways.
What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue Yoga?
When I practice yoga, I feel like I am dancing... I get to make beautiful shapes with my body while improving my strength and mobility.
Do you have a Yoga achievement that you're particularly proud of?
I traveled all the way to India to get my yoga teaching certification-- that's how passionate I am about my practice. I wanted to go to the source to learn more about yoga.
How have your achievements and challenges made you better at Yoga?
As an avid yogi and gym-goer, I have had some nagging injuries before, which have led to me deepening my understanding of injury prevention and fitness, making me a more well-rounded teacher.
If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?
I'd probably choose "Little T Fitness". She is a fitness influencer that does really cool movements.
How do you help people stay motivated?
I like to remind people the time it takes to grow. Everything worth working towards takes time-- it is important to remember that change is gradual.
What makes you a Superprof in Yoga?
Not only do I have my 200 hour YTT, I am in the midst of completing my personal training, nutrition and corrective exercise certifications. Most importantly, I have practiced yoga for seven years, so I know these shapes and movements like the back of my hand!
