About Esha
have been working as Senior Research Fellow (2015 onwards) in GU-SAC (ISRO) collaboration project entitled “Monitoring of Cryosphere Surface Changes and Ice Thickness Distribution” under MOP-III Program. The major objectives of my area of interest includes:
1) to identify and classify different ice features near Indian Antarctic research stations Bharti and Maitri and its surroundings, using fusion of ResourceSat LISS-4 optical multispectral data and RISAT-SAR microwave data.
2) to extract and classify various Antarctic ice features using RISAT-SAR hybrid polarimetric data with help of m-chi decomposition technique.
3) to identify hotspots and to estimate changes over Antarctic coastline using change detection analysis of Radarsat data and Sentinel data during the period 1997 and 2019.
The outcome of our research work has helped us to understand the current changing trends in Antarctica ice shelve margins. Since the changes in ice margins are found to depend on both time and location, monitoring temporal variations of these ice shelves is important for understanding as well as predicting the calving events.
Based on my research work, I also have submitted PhD thesis entitled “Charaterization of Antarctic Ice Features and its Changes Using RISAT-1 SAR Data” on 30 December 2020 to Gujarat University. The research work has been carried out under the guidance of Dr. M. E. James, Professor, Dept. of Physics, Electronics & Space Sciences, Gujarat University). The software implementation and its related analysis included in research work was carried out in MTDD/AMHTDG/EPSA Division, SAC (ISRO), Ahmedabad.
