About Aish

I am Aisha. I live in Kingston and teach Qaidah alongside my work in tech.

Like many people, I learned to read the Quran as a child without really understanding the rules behind it. I went on to complete three Qaidah courses, then a teacher training course at Tahbeer Institute. That course changed how I saw everything. I realised I’d been taught to read without learning the makharij, the rules, or why letters sound the way they do.

So I teach the way I wish I’d been taught. Every letter is learned properly from the start, so students don’t have to unlearn habits later.

I love the moment a student reads their first word without help. Whether it’s a shy four-year-old or an adult starting from scratch, it never gets old.

About the lesson

Assalamu alaikum! I teach beginners to read the Quran, starting from the very first letter. My students include young children from age 4 or adults who never had the chance to learn, or want a fresh start reading the Quran the right way.”

How I teach
I use the the Noorani Qaidah (Al-Qaidah An-Nooraniyah), step by step. We start with letter shapes and sounds, then joining letters, then harakat, sukoon and shaddah, until students can read Quranic words on their own. I don’t rush. Each new step only comes once the last one is solid. For little ones, I keep things light and encouraging, with lots of repetition and games. Adults get a calm, judgement-free space to learn at their own pace. I keep notes on every student’s progress after each lesson, so I always know exactly where to pick up. I share these with you, or with parents for younger students.

Lesson length
Children aged 4–7: 30 minutes, which is about as long as young attention lasts.
Older children and adults: 30–45 minutes.

My experience
I currently teach Qaidah online every week, to students aged 4 to 29. I’m also a Teaching Assistant at an Islamic after-school club, where I support children learning to read. I have a DBS check.

Who it’s for
Complete beginners of any age, or anyone who learned as a child and wants to start again properly. Lessons can be online, or at your home in and around Kingston.
