About Zain

I'm an avid language learner who is now in 3rd year of Medicine at UCL. I studied Arabic, French and Mandarin at GCSE scoring 9s in all, and took French to A-Level (A*). I've also studied other languages like Korean and Japanese informally, and have been teaching all of these languages online in different contexts since 2020.

Arabic can be a daunting language to learn due to its complex grammar, difficult sounds and extensive vocabulary. However, Arabic is so vital to understanding the dozens of cultures of the Arab world, the language of the Qur'an, and the language governing politics in such an important cradle of the world. By emphasising culture first, I aim to show how beautiful and important a language Arabic is, and I hope I get to show you that through my teaching philosophy (besides getting top marks, of course!)

About the lesson

Language learning at GCSE focuses on reading, writing, speaking and listening. I first set out exactly what the curriculum demands for GCSE Arabic and French depending on your exam board. Then, in our lessons, we practise each of the four skills, focusing more on the skills that you struggle with most.

I teach grammar by first breaking down the concepts, then building understanding through lots of practice. Arabic has a lot of new grammar concepts, but I introduce these one at a time to allow the ideas to build on each other. Vocabulary lists are published for each exam board - memorising these words allows you to explore the depths of your language as much as possible and ensure top marks.
