I am a second-year medical student at Cardiff University and help GCSE and A Level students studying Chemistry and Biology. Having attained 3 A stars at A Level, both in Chemistry and Biology I hope I am able to get across to students what really helped me when facing my A Levels. I believe in understanding the key concepts of Chemistry and Biology is essential to answering exam questions and this is the main goal of my tutoring. This in combination with smart exam technique is a good way of finding success in exams. Throughout my lessons, we will focus on exam questions and the easy ways of picking up marks, by looking at mark schemes to focus on what the question is looking for.
As a tutor I try to be as engaging as possible, applying the science to real life situations. I try to be friendly and chatty, coming up with unique ways of conveying difficult concepts so that the students understand and remember for when it matters most. I believe it is great to have students teaching other students, as they have recently been through similar situations sitting similar exams. This helps focus your studies on the essential aspects of the course, where you can fulfil your potential.
I have been giving informal lessons to students who live in my local area for a couple of years and have thoroughly enjoyed seeing them progress. I really enjoyed my time at school and teaching students the biology and chemistry I found so interesting is a real pleasure. I have taught 3 students in the past year and they have all gone on to achieve their target grade or exceed it. Seeing my students achieve their potential was extremely pleasing and is something I look forward to doing with my future tutees.
