About Chrissy

Hi! My name is Chrissy, I am 23 years old, and I am so excited about having an opportunity to help tutor students. I believe every student can succeed with the right amount of encouragement! I have an honors bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Ottawa, and I am currently completing a graduate diploma at Algonquin College in paralegal studies, where I've developed strong skills in research, writing, grammar, critical thinking, and communication. While completing my schooling, I've come to recognize that every student has their own strengths, weaknesses, and learning methods, which is why I believe a tutoring lesson plan should always be curtailed to the student's unique needs and abilities. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress. I am excited to work alongside students as they build confidence, develop new skills, and discover their strengths. Looking back, I know I would have benefited from this kind of personalized support when I was in middle school and high school, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to provide that encouragement to others.

About the lesson

My goal as a tutor is to identify each student's individual strengths, learning style, and areas for improvement, then create personalized lessons that help them build confidence and succeed. I focus on strengthening essential English language skills, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and critical thinking, through lesson plans tailored to each student's needs and academic goals.

A typical tutoring session begins with reviewing any homework, assignments, or upcoming assessments from school to ensure students receive support with their current coursework. From there, we work through targeted activities designed to reinforce classroom learning, such as reading and summarizing passages, practicing grammar and spelling, expanding vocabulary, improving essay writing and paragraph structure, and developing critical thinking skills through meaningful discussions.

Each lesson also includes a review of concepts from previous sessions to reinforce learning and encourage long-term retention. Most importantly, I provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, discuss areas they find challenging, and focus on the topics where they need the most support. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and developing the confidence to become independent learners.
