I have been teaching middle and high school students for 15 years, and I have found that the gradual release model of teaching works best. This means that I will give a mini lesson on a topic, demonstrate the skill with related content, then the student and I will try the skill together. We will end the lesson with the student attempting the skill independently with feedback as the closing to the lesson. I also provide coaching and feedback as we work on the skill.
