About Mikayla

Hi there, I'm Mikayla. I’m a lifelong artist with a deep passion for creativity and a love for the world around us. From the vibrant colors and textures of nature to the rich stories in history, the rhythms of music, and to the joy that travel and food brings, I find inspiration in everything—and I bring that energy into my teaching. I found my escape, my safe space and myself in art when I wasn't the best at other things in school, and I believe that art is not just about creating something beautiful; it’s about the process of expressing who you are and exploring the connections between ourselves and the universe. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s unique strengths and interests. Whether you’re just beginning your artistic journey or looking to take your skills to the next level, I’m here to guide you with personalized lessons and a supportive approach. As a professional aspiring art educator, I take pride in fostering creativity, a safe space, an escape, and confidence in my students. Together, we’ll explore techniques, dive into fascinating themes, develop a deeper appreciation for art, and create work that feels meaningful to you. Let’s unlock your artistic potential and have fun along the way!

About the lesson

Teaching Method and Techniques
I take a hands-on, process-oriented approach to teaching art, focusing on exploration and self-expression. My lessons are tailored to each student's unique interests, skill level, and goals. I integrate foundational skills like drawing and painting with opportunities for experimentation in various mediums such as collage, digital art, sculpture etc. I encourage students to keep a sketchbook as a tool for practice and personal growth.

A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical lesson begins with a brief discussion about the student's goals and inspiration, followed by a demonstration of specific techniques or materials. We then work on a project, where I provide guidance, feedback, and encouragement throughout. Lessons often end with a reflection on the process, highlighting successes and areas for growth.

What Sets Me Apart
As a lifelong artist and aspiring art teacher, I bring both passion and a fresh perspective to my tutoring. I aim to create a supportive and safe environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and confidence. I draw from a range of influences, including nature, history, music, travel, emotions, time etc. to make lessons meaningful and engaging.

Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for students of all ages and skill levels—whether you’re a beginner exploring art for the first time or an experienced creator looking to refine your skills. I welcome anyone eager to learn and express themselves through art.
