• 10+ years running Creative Art Courses – Manchester’s leading independent art school for leisure artists, based in Ancoats since 2010
• 8 years working within secondary school education to GCSE level
• 15+ years teaching adult leisure classes for Oldham Lifelong Learning
• 15+ years delivering community engagement projects for charities and social services across Greater Manchester specialising in youth projects
• 10 years commercial surface pattern design for UK market leaders
TEACHING ETHOS
I tutor students studying in year 7 - year 11 (GCSE), and adult leisure artists whether absolute-beginners just picking up a pencil for the first time to adult artists preparing for their first public exhibition. My teaching focuses on supporting you to improve your observation skills, self-expression, and creativity within a wide range of styles from realistic, semi abstract, and abstract work.
My skills lie in understanding what you want to achieve in your creative projects and unlocking your potential through carefully selected creative tasks and projects, to support you to create your best work.
With over 20 years of teaching experience I have a wealth of knowledge and exciting creative projects with which to inspire and help you to flourish and achieve the level of skills you desire.
I teach a wide range of drawing, painting, mixed-media, and life drawing skills and techniques across a wide range of materials such as graphite pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylics, mixed-media, and many others. I teach within a Modernist tradition where your self-expression and creativity is my focus.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Certificate in Education – University of Bolton (16+, adult, further, higher ed)
• QTLS teaching qualification – professional qualification (Key Stage 3 -4)
• MA Public Art (distinction) – University of Bolton
• HND Fine Art – Cape Technikon school of art
• HND Textile Design - Cape Technikon school of art

My personal artwork focuses on the following subjects;

My 40 years of experience in secondary and adult education, community engagement, and industry has given me outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. I am a highly skilled facilitator, tutor, and tactful communicator with boundless empathy for my students – no matter what age or skills level you are.
Most importantly, I love helping my students grow their creative confidence and sharing my years of experience. I am approachable, straight forward, have an inclusive attitude, and offer honest positively framed feedback that always seeks to celebrate success and sensitively supports you to improve those parts of your arts practice you may be struggling to master.
My role as tutor is to put my students’ needs and ambitions first, teach to your strengths, and offer support to help you overcome any barriers to success.
My aim is to ensure you enjoy every creative fun-packed, session, leave each session with a purposeful action plan, and feel confident you are on the right path toward creative success.

With over 25 years teaching experience at secondary school, further and higher education, and adult leisure artists, I have developed a strong ethos around what makes effective tuition. Most importantly;
1. To put my students’ needs central to every session by creating a safe space for you to flourish and find your own creative voice.
2. To support your creative growth with a clarity of thinking and objective eye by offering you clear understandable feedback and an action plan to boost your creative confidence.
I teach with compassion, integrity, honesty, and most importantly kindness that will nurture your creative spirit and enable you to grow your skills and techniques to help you achieve your creative goals and ambitions.
Lessons are between 30 – 90 minutes depending on what you wish to accomplish, whether its technique demonstrations, creative projects, or critique of artwork that you require. This can be discussed as we make an action plan during your first session.

• Material techniques in anything from graphite, charcoal, acrylics and beyond
