  I developed an interest in law quite early, but it really deepened during my undergraduate degree. I realised I wasn’t just interested in “what the law is” — I was fascinated by why it works the way it does, how courts reason, and how legal principles shape real lives.
  
  Private tutoring came later. I started helping classmates and younger students who were struggling with structure and application. I noticed something: most students didn’t lack intelligence — they lacked clarity and confidence. Once I showed them how to structure an answer properly, everything clicked.
  
  That moment — when a student says, “Ohhh, I get it now” — is what made me fall in love with tutoring.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you like to discuss.

  I teach law, primarily focusing on Scots law subjects such as contract, delict, public law, and family law. I especially enjoy teaching problem questions — IRAC, structured reasoning, and learning how to apply case law properly.
  
  I love discussing:
  Legal reasoning and argument
  Children’s rights (especially UNCRC and welfare principles)
  Judicial discretion and how courts balance competing interests
  The difference between description and analysis (a big one!)
  
  If I’m honest, the topic I enjoy slightly less is purely procedural content with heavy memorisation. But even then, I always try to frame it in a way that makes sense practically.
  
  For me, law isn’t about memorising cases — it’s about learning how to think like a lawyer.

• 3) Did you have any role models or teachers that inspired you?

  Yes — and interestingly, it wasn’t always the loudest or most charismatic lecturers. It was the ones who were structured, calm, and clear.
  
  I remember one lecturer who would break down a complicated case into simple logical steps. No drama. No fluff. Just clarity. That changed how I approached everything.
  
  It showed me that teaching isn’t about showing how much you know — it’s about making knowledge accessible.

• 4) What qualities are required to be a good tutor?

  Patience. Structure. Empathy.
  
  A good tutor understands that students are often anxious, overwhelmed, and afraid of “getting it wrong.” You need to create a space where they feel safe to try.
  
  But alongside empathy, you need structure. Law is logical — and tutoring it requires a clear method.
  
  I also believe honesty is important. If something needs improvement, I will say so — but always constructively and with a plan to fix it.

• 5) Provide an anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  In my first year of law school, I wrote what I thought was an amazing essay. It was detailed, referenced, and long. I received a mediocre grade.
  
  The feedback said: “Too descriptive. Lacks analysis.”
  
  At the time, I didn’t fully understand what that meant. That moment stayed with me. I spent the next few years mastering what “analysis” actually looks like.
  
  Now, that’s one of the main things I teach my students — how to move from storytelling to structured legal reasoning.
  
  Sometimes your biggest academic frustrations become your strongest teaching tools.

• 6) What challenges did you face in your subject?

  The biggest challenge was shifting from memorising information to applying it critically.
  
  Law school can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re juggling multiple modules, deadlines, and expectations.
  
  As a postgraduate (LLM) student, the level of independent thinking required increases even more. You’re expected to critique, not just explain.
  
  Now, as a trainee sheriff officer, the challenge is different. It’s about responsibility, professionalism, and real-world impact. That transition from theory to practice is humbling — and motivating.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion?

  Yes — clarity.
  
  I’m passionate about helping students develop confidence in their reasoning. I genuinely love seeing students go from “I don’t know what to write” to producing structured, persuasive answers.
  
  I’m also passionate about mentoring. Law can feel intimidating, especially if you don’t come from a legal background. I want students to feel that this field is accessible.
  
  Teaching, for me, isn’t just about grades. It’s about growth.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof?

  I combine academic excellence with real-world legal experience.
  
  I’ve completed both an LLB and LLM, and I’m currently training within the Scottish court system. That means I don’t just teach theory — I understand how legal reasoning operates in practice.
  
  But beyond qualifications, what makes me different is that I care deeply about my students’ progress. I tailor sessions to individual weaknesses, focus heavily on structure and application, and give honest, detailed feedback.
  
  I don’t just help students pass.
  
  I help them think like lawyers.
