I will also encourage you to tell me if I am working through our lessons too quickly and that you need a little more practice to improve on a certain topic. My sessions are about you, not me. My lessons are typically for 14-16 year olds preparing for their GCSEs, but I am also experienced in teaching phonics and other literary skills to younger children. Sessions will usually last somewhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your preference and need. At GCSE level, I have taught students how to recognise literary devices and then relate these techniques to the theme of the essay question, ensuring that every sentence they write is relevant and articulate. More importantly, though, I will spend our first session talking through what you struggle with in particular to improve my understanding of which areas you need more guidance with, allowing me to tailor my sessions specifically to you.
My qualifications include a strong 2:1 degree from the University of Liverpool and a Non-QTS Secondary English certificate from the National Tutoring Programme. Most recently, I worked as an Academic Mentor for high school children with low reading ages, assisting them with the segmenting and blending of words.
