About Haila M
My artwork is motivated by social, political memories and issues such as power, ideology, race, identity and fragility. I always use life as my starting point, so the process is more an experience rather than imagined. Working with memory is a way of finding and establishing our identity, transforming and freeing ourselves from limits through art. Teaching enables me to make my students enjoy the freedom only art can offer. Art is indeed a tool for making sense of life's complexity, chaos, the fragility of the world and our own journeys both internal and external.
