About Devin

I attended Deerfield Academy for four years. A well-known and established boarding school in Western Massachusetts, Deerfield provided me with the best education from the best educators. I received multiple accolades for my creative writing and always maintained high grades in my English courses. I am a writing prodigy, as I learned how to write at the age of four years old and began writing complete stories by the age of seven. I finished my first book of seventy pages when I was nine years old. I was in the 99th percentile of American students who took the reading comprehension section of the PSAT. I have also worked with a variety of ages including seven-year-olds and twenty-year-olds. I love to teach, and I am patient. I especially understand those with learning disabilities, as I, myself, have two. I am currently in the process of publishing my first poetry book, and I hope to publish many more works!

About the lesson

Hello! I am a young tutor with lots of experience teaching writing and reading skills. I usually have an introductory session to become acquainted with my student. Once I understand their needs, skill level, and goals, I create a specialized lesson plan. I was always a kinesthetic learner when growing up, so I find it important to determine what my student's learning style is. If they enjoy the kinesthetic approach, I try to engage most senses like using white noise or wordless music in the background of lessons, having the student read their work aloud or act it out, and more techniques. If they are more of a visual learner, I will ask them to complete any reading or writing assignments, and then I will show them a film or series that represents the storyline. My main goal is for my students to remember what they learn in our lessons, so I try to appeal to their specific needs. I teach all ages, including college-level English students.

I cannot say how pleased we are with Devin. She is not only knowledgeable, she is super patient, kind, and has a warm sense of humor. Devin helped our family and most of all our 2 younger children. She has the ability to provide multiple ways to teach/understand a topic and really tries to accommodate each of our children’s learning styles. One of our kids has ADHD and she was also able to teach him learning strategies to help him focus better. You will not be disappointed with her teaching and great work ethic.
