About Lucy

I am a friendly, approachable and knowledgeable tutor and am currently studying Economics and Accounting at the University of Bristol. I have lots of tutoring experience working with a wide range of skill sets and abilities. Some of my work has included working in school programmes to help boost the performance of underachieving students. Whilst I am passionate about my subjects I understand that many students find the likes of Maths, Business and Economics ... dull. My aim is to make my lessons as engaging as possible. Boredom is a barrier to learning and therefore my unique approach to lessons helps keep students interested and ultimately helps them to learn. I understand the pressures students are under to attain certain grades, especially at A-level where University places are dependent upon exam performance. My goal is to work together with students in order to help them achieve the results they need to progress onto the next stage of their academic journey.

About the lesson

In my opinion teaching is a two-way conversation, very few people will benefit from being constantly lectured at for an hour. With this in mind I aim to keep my lessons as engaging as possible through the use of discussions, real-world application and practice questions. My sessions are adapted to cater for each individual student's personal learning needs. Some students prefer working on exam technique and practice questions whilst other students benefit from being re-taught a particular topic that they feel behind on. The best approach to take for each individual is something that we can discuss in a free meeting. When reteaching topics, especially at A-level, I use my own personal notes as the basis for my lessons. I compiled these notes using textbooks, research and work from my own personal studies. I believe these notes played a huge role in my success at A-level and find they have the same effects on my current students. I strongly believe in the importance of visual learning and that reading from a monotonous block of text is not conducive to anybody's learning. My presentations are colourful and break complicated concepts down into smaller, more understandable chunks.
