About Mayan
With over a decade of international experience across education, advertising, fashion, and technology, I bring a unique multidisciplinary perspective to teaching and mentoring. My professional journey has included roles such as lecturer, stylist, cultural and digital strategist, designer, art director, product developer, e-commerce manager, and entrepreneur. Working in global hubs like Hong Kong, New York, Frankfurt, Milan, and Toronto has not only deepened my understanding of diverse markets but also enriched my interpersonal and cultural communication skills—qualities essential for effective education. I specialize in connecting with millennial audiences, particularly men aged 25–50, by understanding their preferences in lifestyle, fashion, and wellness. My extensive primary research on their consumption patterns, digital behaviors, and cultural influences informs my teaching, enabling me to provide students with real-world insights and applications. By combining emotional intelligence with data-driven strategies, I equip learners to navigate the intersection of creativity, design, and cultural dynamics. As an educator, I emphasize versatility, sustainability, and self-expression—values that resonate strongly with today’s students and markets. With experience in education, fashion, art, and design, I bring a dynamic and student-centered approach to fine art and artistic expression. By incorporating real-world examples and current trends into my lessons, I aim to create an engaging and relevant learning environment. As a fashion designer with expertise in curriculum development and a strong emphasis on color theory, I’ve founded businesses, written, and taught a fashion business course at Cornell University, always staying attuned to cultural diversity and market shifts. My active involvement in the fashion industry enables me to share fresh, firsthand insights with students, making learning both interactive and inspiring.
In addition to my background in education, I bring valuable international management experience from my professional career, which enhances my ability to provide a global perspective in the classroom. I have taught internationally in Canada, Kenya, Hong Kong, and the United States, integrating cross-cultural teaching strategies that resonate with diverse learners.
When designing lesson plans, I focus on differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s interests and skills while maintaining an open, learner-focused approach to teaching.
