About Maranatha

I have been tutoring College Physics and mathematics up to Calculus I for nearly 3 years. I tutor with both the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and Varsity Tutors online. I have nothing but 5-star reviews with Varsity Tutors, with many students requesting to work with me again for other subjects.

I truly love tutoring because I am told by students that I really help them move forward from their stuck-places. I live for the "a-ha" moment.

I started tutoring physics and math at my local university (UNLV). But I also tutored violin in high school.
I remember struggling to understand physics and math when I was learning, spending countless hours researching and filling in knowledge gaps. I love to pass on my knowledge and help students feel confident in solving these problems. I give students information I wish I was taught.

I am a sophomore/junior physics major pursuing a second bachelor's degree who has taken upper-level math and physics classes. I also spent two years working in a high-pressure physics laboratory before becoming a tutor. These experiences have given me a firm knowledge of physics and mathematics concepts.

My first bachelors degree is a B.S. in Psychology, so I have been playing the academia game for a long time now. I have learned tricks of the trade that I pass onto students and that relieve students of their burdens time and again, in my direct experience.

About the lesson

Upon first meeting, I ask the student questions about the format of the class (i.e. timeline, topics covered, homework) and their mathematics/physics experience, if any. I, then, ask the student what his or her goal for this class and tutoring sessions are. This usually takes only a few minutes.

This allows me to create the most productive study plan with the student (my motto: work smarter, not harder). And from there, we begin the journey to a better grade together.

I work with college-level students.

I would look for a tutor who has a lot of experience tutoring and who has good reviews. This means that tutor is most likely able to guide you through your problem-areas and teach you techniques so that you can solve problems autonomously.

I cannot pinpoint a singleevent during tutoring that I am fond of because, instead, I live to hear one phrase from my students: "Oh! Why didn't they (professor) just say that in class?"

...and it happens a lot, thankfully.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
For physics, students should learn the basic thought-process for reading and understanding physics problems. If the math concepts (algebra, trigonometry and vectors) are not strong, students should self-study those before attempting physics problems. That way, the student will have a clear understanding of what step in the problem-solving process they are having trouble with. It will most likely help the professor give them a quicker and more relevant solution.
