About Melissa
I am a high school teacher with 22 years of experience, from ninth grade English to AP English, and have been an SAT tutor and scorer for more than a decade. I have also worked as an adjunct instructor at a community college. I have a real talent for breaking down information in a way students can understand it.
I
I have an M.A. in Literature as well as an M.A. in Secondary Education. In my experience as a teacher I have been trained in how to score SAT and ACT essays as well as AP essays for English Language, Literature, and Seminar.

After a quick consultation to determine the student's goals, I administer a short assessment to determine where the student is in relation to these goals. From there I design lessons that we complete in class as well as homework from various sources to help the student to continue to learn between sessions.
As a teacher I have worked with students in honors level and AP-level courses as well as students who speak English as a second language and students with disabilities. At Durham Technical Community College I taught adult learners in developmental reading and English.
