About Xiao Yi

Hi there! My name is Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall. I was born and raised here on Oahu. I am a current sophomore attending Hawaii Pacific University. I am a biology major with a pre-health concentration and a minor in forensic science. I began my teaching/coaching career at 15 when I began helping my father teach tennis to elementary aged students. From there, I began volunteering with the Special Olympics as a tennis coach and I have taught tennis summer programs at both Hongwonji and Kaimuki Christian School. After co-founding the 'Iolani Family Promise Club to help assist Hawaii's homeless families, I have gained valuable experience as a tutor and babysitter to children from kindergarten to 6th grade. I have received numerous writing accolades throughout my high school and college career. I am also a top-scorer on both the ACT and SAT, in writing, English, and math. I understand that every child has a unique learning style. I look forward to working with your child to learn their learning language and help them achieve their full potential.

I began my teaching/coaching career at 15 years old when I began helping my father coach tennis. I have tutoring experience through the club I co-founded, 'Iolani Family Promise Club. I tutored and babysat children from kindergarten to 6th grade.

About the lesson

I believe in order to establish a friendly and professional rapport with new students, it is important to establish trust and open communication. I will address any concerns they have about their learning and answer any questions they may have. I think it is also important to reward students for progress and interest in the subject material.

I have worked with students from kindergarten to 6th grade, special education students, and adults.
