About Laura
For over eight years, I have had the privilege of working with students of every age from pre-K to 50. Whether I am helping someone learn to read, demystifying the college essay, or fine-tuning the nuances of a dissertation, it brings me so much joy to collaborate with a student and make their challenges a little less scary. My approach focuses on a student's strengths and empowers them to build their skills until they can confidently approach their educational tasks independently. I have over five years experience working in writing centers with undergraduate and graduate students, and four years experience teaching students at the middle school level. In addition, I have experience homeschooling elementary age students. I am certified in Massachusetts to teach grades 5-12, and my specialties are English as a Second Language and writing. I have helped dozens of students build their confidence in their language and writing skills, and I would love to help you on your educational journey, too!
I'm a people person, and I love getting to make connections with new students and their families! There is nothing better than helping someone feel more confident in themselves, and every student helps me learn more about myself too.
I have always had a passion for teaching since I was young. I would help my siblings with their schoolwork, and started assisting teaching dance classes at 12 years old. In college, I tutored in the writing center and volunteered at an after school in my spare time. Spending time with young people and sharing my knowledge so that education feels accessible to everyone is one of my life's passions!
I have a BA in Creative Writing, where I also minored in Editing and Publishing. My MA is in Applied Linguistics, with a concentration in teaching English as a Second Language.

When I meet a new student, I focus on getting to know them first and making sure they're comfortable. I ask them about their strengths, what makes them feel confident, and what their interests are. Then I start a conversation about what their needs are and why they've sought out tutoring.

I liked Ms.Healy’s class because she always made sure we 100% understood the work before doing it, and she made sure everyone was included and had the chance to participate . She made the class very fun.
Being able to work in a safe and nonjudgmental place.
What i like is first of all how my teacher was so supportive, and she was ready to help me with everything. Aslo that she was so patient with me, even sometimes it was hard but she still did it. Because of her I pass the ESL class!!!!!!!!😄
