About Daniel
My name is Dan Merilatt and I have the pleasure of offering my tutoring services.
I am a semi-retired economist who spent 40 years working for the electric utility industry.
I received my undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Colorado, my masters degree in economics from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, and I completed nearly three years of doctoral studies in economics at the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
I have, since graduate school, taught economics (graduate and undergraduate), quantitative methods, statistics, and econometrics at 10 different colleges and universities mostly in the Southeast on a part-time basis. I am currently an adjunct instructor of economics at St. Johns River State College in St. Augustine.
I am married with two grown children. I am a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force wherein I was a Chinese linguist.
I have had a life-long love of learning with a passion for reading economics, ethics, literature, history, and science. The rest of my time is spent working on my wife's extensive and continually expanding "to-do" list.
I think economics is the 'cat's pajamas'. That means I love it. People who love their discipline also love it when others come to appreciate it. For that reason, I have for the longest time kept my toe in the water of teaching economics and associated disciplines.
People really need to understand how our economy works and why it is successful. Advancing that understanding a bit is very satisfying to me.
I started teaching in graduate school to help pay for it. After graduate school, I simply kept it up on a part-time basis.

(1) Determine what trouble they are having and why.
(2) Develop a reading list and study plan to quickly put the student back on track.
(3) Discuss concepts with the student to make sure there is understanding. Provide practice question sets to the student and go over them--correcting and explaining why the answers are what they are.
