About Maria

I have been painting and drawing all life. I enjoy creating cartoons of people I have met or of stories I may hear on the news. I also love to paint using acryic and watercolor. I enjoy creating abstract artwork and talking to others on their perception of each piece. I enjoy helping anyone interested in learning to improve or just learn the basics of self expression through Art. Art is a great way to channel our feelings and emotions on paper. I have a facebook page which is Arte By Maria.

I used art for self-expression when I was facing many obstacles in my life. It is like a diary of sorts but using your emotions thoughts and feelings to record the times in your life that significantly impacted you. I enjoy sharing my art skills with others. It is a passion so it never seems like work!

Attended the Art Institute in Houston. Worked on various art projects in my community, such as murals for at-risk youth, Tshirt designs for the City of Bryan, Face painting and caricatures for events, coloring book designs, book illustration, and cover through Texas A&M book. Portraits for loved ones who have passed away, Animal portraits, Canvas art, watercolor abstract, and colorful art on wood tables. Mosaic art, sculpting, and art expression classes

About the lesson

Talking to the person, knowing their art interests and where they want to improve. Giving the person of the class times and schedule.

I have worked with artists of all ages from the youngest was 6 months old, to the oldest at 93 years old. I have worked with students in the youth detention center, youth, and adults in a domestic violence shelter, and taught Art classes first through high school at a charter school. I have taught private lessons in my home studio and for the older adults that are homebound, I will teach at their home.

Art is a great way to express yourself. Find someone you can relate to and that understands exactly what you want to accomplish. Art lessons should be fun and after each class, you should feel proud of yourself!

The most recent art class was for my parents both are now in their nineties and both suffer from dementia. I also invited a few of their friends and had an art class at their home. I provided small wooden birdhouses and brought beautiful bright paints. It was a wonderful day for my parents and their friends.

The best way to remember all your questions and concerns is to write them down. I am here to help you succeed and learn one drawing at a time! There are no mistakes in art and I will show you all the ways to perfect your skills!

Each individual will have the choice of selecting classes 1,2 or 3 times a week,

The class price will be the same and will be discussed at the initial visit. Each class assignment will be specialized with the student in mind.
