About Sophie

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my business! For safety, I am currently focusing on virtual sessions, and I can drop off or ship materials to your home if needed.

I am very passionate about the power of art and I love working with people. I have two bachelors degrees in Intensive Psychology and Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and I am headed towards a career as an Art Therapist. I have facilitated art activities with a wide range of people, including: children at a locally run art studio, people incarcerated at the county jail, members of the public at the MAH (Museum of Art and History, downtown Santa Cruz), and adults with severe mental illness living in a residential program.

I tailor my sessions to individual needs, interests, age, and skill level. It is natural for me to do this because my art facilitation skills are versatile: I can facilitate sensory-rich, mixed media activities with young children, teach someone drawing basics like how to draw a building in 2-point perspective, or guide an elderly or disabled person through the therapeutic process of freely experimenting with a variety of art mediums.

I love working with people and I love art! I love seeing people feel pride in their artwork or in learning something new. I also love seeing how being immersed in the creative process can help people feel more calm and happy or help distract them form what's going on in their life. The world feels unsure or scary for many people right now, and I believe that art can help!

My first job as a teenager in my hometown in Pennsylvania was at a daycare/preschool. My love for teaching and working with children (especially doing art activities) blossomed there. While in college, I was able to expand my horizons by working with other age groups and populations.

In addition to undergraduate degrees in both Art and Psychology, I have completed multiple internships which have given me experience facilitating art with a diverse range of people in my community. I have also completed a Therapeutic Art Life Coach Certification.

About the lesson

I am always happy to do a free consultation to talk about your individual needs, interests, and skill level. I want to provide lessons and activities that are right for you.

I have work with children (in multiple settings, one-on-one and in groups), members of the public (of all ages) at Museum of Art and History events, people incarcerated at the Santa Cruz county jail, and people with severe mental illness living in a residential program. I thoroughly enjoyed working with each of these populations and have learned so much working with such a diverse range of people.

Details

My sessions are between $30-$40 per hour. If you need me to drop materials at your house (or ship if you are outside Santa Cruz county), I will charge an extra materials fee depending on what you need.
