About Allison

Hello! My name is Allison and I would love to be your new tutor! I am a virtual school science teacher here in Winter Haven. I have a ton of experience tutoring. My previous job consisted of coordinating after school tutoring for a private company that covered all of Polk county. On top of that, I tutored for the company for 5 years. I have experience tutoring elementary through college in almost all subjects (excluding music or foreign languages).

I graduated in 2011 with a Biomedical Sciences degree. I have been through a ton of science and math courses, although I am comfortable tutoring any subject.

I do work year round, however, I work from home so my time is very flexible and I can be available almost any time. Sunday mornings I do devote to church so I will not be available from 9-12.

About the lesson

First and foremost, students must feel comfortable. It is important that I create an environment where students are able to talk freely to me about what they don’t understand without any judgement. Once we talk a little and get to know each other, I will look at their current homework, books, syllabi, or course materials to get a sense of what needs to be reviewed or even retaught. I will also identify how the student learns. This can be that missing piece parents! I will gear activities, practice problems, and homework help around learning styles and things that peak the interest of the student to keep them engaged and focused.

I have experience tutoring elementary through college in almost all subjects (excluding music or foreign languages).

Find yourself an encourager, a tutor who won’t stop until they find what works for you. Your tutor should feel like your teammate in this learning process. We all learn differently and tutors should be able to identify how you learn and make it easier for you.
