About Emma

Hi, I’m Emma! I’m a former primary school teacher with a genuine passion for helping children develop confidence in their learning, particularly when it comes to English. I have over 10 years of experience teaching a wide range of ages from foundation all the way to upper Key stage 2.

Having worked in education myself, I understand that children learn in very different ways. Some children need a little extra support to catch up, while others simply need someone to explain something differently or give them the confidence to believe they can do it.

I enjoy making learning friendly, relaxed and engaging, rather than making children feel like they’re simply doing more schoolwork. I’ll take the time to understand your child’s individual strengths, interests and areas they find challenging, and tailor sessions around them.

I can support primary-aged children with reading, comprehension, spelling, phonics, writing, grammar, punctuation and general English skills, as well as helping children prepare for school assessments and SATs.

Why I want to teach

I really miss the rewarding part of teaching — seeing that moment when something suddenly clicks for a child and their confidence grows.

I’m looking to use my teaching experience again in a flexible way alongside my current career, while hopefully making a genuine difference to children who would benefit from some additional one-to-one support.

My aim is for every child to finish a session feeling more confident and positive about English than when they started. I want tutoring to be something they enjoy, not something they dread!

About the lesson

Hi! I’m an experienced teacher offering friendly, supportive English tuition for primary-aged children.

I previously worked as a teacher and have a real passion for helping children feel more confident with reading, writing and English. I know that children don’t all learn in the same way, so I like to make sessions engaging, relaxed and tailored to the individual child rather than making tutoring feel like extra school.

I can support children with:

Reading and comprehension
️ Writing and creative writing
Phonics and spelling
Grammar and punctuation
Vocabulary and sentence building
General confidence and catching up with schoolwork
Preparation for school assessments and SATs

Whether your child needs a little extra support, is lacking confidence, or simply enjoys English and would benefit from being stretched, I can adapt sessions to suit them.

My approach

I believe children learn best when they feel comfortable and encouraged. I’ll get to know your child’s strengths and areas they find difficult, and then tailor sessions accordingly.

My aim isn’t simply to get through a worksheet — it’s to help children understand what they’re doing and leave the session feeling that they’re capable of doing it.

I’m friendly, patient and approachable, and I’m very happy to work with children who may be reluctant or lacking confidence in English.

Sessions can take place online, making them convenient for busy families.
