About Annike
I have been teaching for 7 years in preschool and kindergarten classrooms, both in the US and abroad. I have a master's degree in elementary education, a Montessori diploma in kindergarten instruction, and am trained in LETRS through Lexia. I incorporate a play-based approach to my classroom instruction, and take that approach to my tutoring students in our lessons.

For struggling readers in grades K-2, I'll begin with a series of brief diagnostic tests to determine any gaps in previous instruction. From there, I will provide systematic, explicit, skill-based instruction in phonics, decoding & encoding, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. I make lessons fun and engaging through the use of picture books and games. My approach is backed by the latest research in how children learn how to read, coupled with my experience in early years classrooms and understanding of how to motivate children to succeed.
