About Cynthia

Hi, I'm Cynthia! I'm a friendly, patient, and dedicated educator based in Auckland, New Zealand, with two master's degrees and experience teaching Economics and Mathematics in a bilingual school.

I hold a Master's degree in Education, Policy and Society from King's College London and a Master of Teaching and Learning from Auckland University of Technology. I also earned my Bachelor's degree in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Aberdeen in the UK.

My academic background in finance and education allows me to combine subject knowledge with effective teaching approaches, helping students understand economic theories and connect them to real-world situations.

Before moving into education in New Zealand, I worked as an Economics and Mathematics Teacher at a bilingual school in Shanghai, where I supported students with different learning needs, explained challenging concepts, and helped them build confidence in their studies.

Having studied and worked in both the UK and New Zealand, I understand the challenges students can face when learning academic subjects in English. As a bilingual educator, I can teach in both English and Mandarin, making Economics more accessible to students from different backgrounds.

I believe Economics becomes much more interesting when students understand how it relates to everyday life, from changes in prices and consumer behavior to inflation, unemployment, and government policies. I enjoy using practical examples and encouraging students to think critically rather than simply memorizing definitions.

My goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing their own ideas, and building confidence in economic analysis.

I believe that Economics is not just about memorizing theories and definitions, but about understanding how the world works and applying economic concepts to real-life situations.

- Essay writing and evaluation: For AS & A Level students, I provide guidance on structuring extended answers, applying economic theory, developing balanced arguments, and writing effective evaluations.
- Supportive and interactive lessons: I encourage questions, discussions, and independent thinking, helping students become more confident in expressing economic ideas.
- Bilingual support: Lessons can be delivered in English or Mandarin, depending on your learning needs.

My typical lessons are 60 minutes long, combining concept explanations, real-world applications, guided practice, and exam-style questions.

My goal is not simply to help you achieve better exam results, but to develop your economic understanding, analytical thinking, and confidence so you can apply what you've learned both in examinations and beyond the classroom.
