About Tommy

As a dedicated English Literature student at college level, I bring both strong academic knowledge and a genuine passion for the subject into my tutoring. I take pride in being reliable, well-prepared, and fully committed to helping each student improve and reach their potential.

I understand the demands of the Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert English courses, particularly when it comes to essay writing, text analysis, and exam technique. Because I am currently immersed in studying literature at a high level, I am familiar with what examiners are looking for and how to approach questions in a clear, structured, and effective way.

I approach every lesson with professionalism and patience, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their ideas. I believe confidence is key in English, and I work closely with students to help them express themselves clearly and improve their writing over time.

About the lesson

I’m a college student studying English Literature, and my approach to tutoring is focused on making English clear, engaging, and practical for exams. I understand that many students struggle with essays, poetry, and structuring their answers, so I break everything down into simple, manageable steps that actually make sense.

In my lessons, I focus on building strong core skills—essay structure, critical thinking, and understanding themes—while also helping students improve their confidence in expressing their ideas. I use a mix of techniques including guided analysis, sample answers, and active discussion, so students aren’t just memorizing material but actually learning how to think and write effectively.

A typical lesson lasts around 60 minutes. We usually start by reviewing previous work or problem areas, then move into focused learning (such as a poem, text, or exam question), and finish with practice and feedback so students can apply what they’ve learned straight away.

While I’m early in my tutoring journey, my current degree in English Literature means I’m constantly working with texts, essays, and analysis at a high level. I also bring a fresh perspective on the course and exams, which helps students relate better and stay engaged.

My lessons are aimed at Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert students who want to improve their grades, understand texts more clearly, and feel more confident going into exams. Whether a student is struggling or aiming for top marks, I adapt my approach to suit their level and goals.
