About Cassidy

I am Cassidy Cagney and I am interested in becoming your tutor! I have recently finished my Master's in Teaching with National University as well as my student teaching experience at Cordova High School. I am currently a candidate for my single subject teaching credential in English and in the process of obtaining my 30-day substitute credential as well. During my student teaching, I have learned that my strengths as an educator come from developing individual, supportive relationships with students. Working in a classroom with 140 students a day was challenging, but I was still able to create deep personal connections with my students. I arrived early and stayed late every day in order to create as much time for tutoring and individualized private instruction as possible. This was the highlight of my teaching experience. Now, I am primarily interested in working with students one-on-one as much as possible. Although I have decided that I want a career in tutoring, I do expect to be receiving my single subject English teaching credential within the next few months.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, I believe that personalized instruction is of the utmost importance. As educators, we need to create systems of support that are student centered and multi-layered. As a one-on-one tutor, I think I would be able to act as one of the central components of your support system. By fostering deep connections, we can help students recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and succeed far beyond it.
During my student teaching, I not only taught high school English, but also Drama. I have always had a love for theatre and I specialize in Shakespeare. I have worked as a professional Shakespearian actress and I bring this passion with me into the classroom. Students often have many misconceptions about Shakespeare, but I endeavor to show them how fun and relevant Shakespeare really is. I am also thoroughly passionate about writing. In my class, students do not only become good writers, but strong writers. My goal is to help students become confident in their own original thinking skills so they can confidently assert their goals, beliefs, and opinions. Developing this confidence will not only improve their writing, but will expand into the rest of their lives as well.

By prioritizing individualized learning experiences and the adoption of a growth mindset, students will learn the value of inquiry, exploration, and their own unique voice.
