About Matthew

I am patient and fun. We will laugh while we learn. I keep things moving and take time to get to know students' interests and about them. It's important to me your child feels safe and able to take risks to propel their learning.

About the lesson

Hello! My name is Matt and I'm an early childhood teacher. I have almost twenty years of classroom experience. Most of my classroom experience is in Kindergarten, although I've also taught first and second grades. I also spent a few years as a K-5 Literacy Coach. I work as a national presenter and consultant with many teachers and children on ways to optimize instruction and learning. I have my state teaching certification which allows me to teach kindergarten through eighth grade and have a Master's Degree in Literacy Education. My passion is for helping young students with reading, writing, phonics, and general literacy skills. I love to read and write and will share this excitement for literacy with your learner.

My teaching and tutoring approach is very student-centered. I will gather information on your child in the first few sessions (interests, strengths, areas of need) and then use that data to help create the best programming for your child. One of my best qualities is my ability to engage students and have fun while learning. I believe all students want to learn and all children can be successful. If something isn't working, it's the teacher's job to reflect and make adjustments. Your child will make progress with me and we will have a good time working together too.
