I teach a UFLI phonics curriculum and also have tools for handwriting practice, vocabulary, and developing background knowledge. This curriculum is based on the Science of Reading and is supported by educational research to guarantee that the student will learn to read from it. These lessons are designed to increase reading fluency and comprehension. In our first session, I will run some diagnostic tests to locate which lesson to start on in the curriculum.
Each lesson will begin with phonemic awareness, then some quick drills to introduce you to new spelling patterns and review previously learned patterns. Next, we will work on blending sounds, and then I will introduce you to the new skill focus of the lesson. After that, we will work on manipulating words to increase comprehension and recognize phonics patterns, as well as learn some irregular word spellings. The final step to each lesson is reading a decodable text that has you apply the new rule and increases fluency and comprehension!
