About Maya
Hi! I'm Maryam, a dedicated and approachable science educator with a strong academic background and a real passion for helping students succeed. I hold a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of New South Wales and a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry. With several years of experience tutoring both high school and university students, I’ve developed a teaching style that’s supportive, engaging, and tailored to each student’s needs. I believe that with the right guidance, every student can gain confidence in Science and Chemistry—even if they’ve struggled in the past. I focus on breaking down complex topics into easy-to-understand concepts, always encouraging questions and making sure students feel comfortable and heard. My Teaching Style and Approach I genuinely love teaching, especially when it comes to Chemistry and Science. My goal as a tutor is not just to help students understand the material, but to help them enjoy learning it. I try to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing their confidence. How I Teach: Every student learns differently, so I always tailor my lessons to suit the individual. I like to break complex ideas into simple, relatable concepts and often use real-life examples to make science feel more meaningful. Whether we’re going through homework questions or exploring new topics, I encourage active participation and aim to make lessons both informative and engaging. I also use visual tools and step-by-step explanations, especially for tricky Chemistry concepts. Lesson Format: Most of my lessons are around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on what works best for the student. For younger learners or those needing shorter sessions, I can easily adapt the timing. A Bit About Me: I recently completed my PhD in Environmental Science at the University of New South Wales and have a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry. Throughout my studies, I’ve had the chance to tutor both high school and university students. I’ve taught chemistry lab skills, helped students prepare for exams, and supported many through challenging science topics. Teaching has always been a rewarding part of my academic journey. Who I Work With: I tutor high school students (especially Years 9 to 12), university students, and adults who are studying or returning to science.
