I have many years of teaching, mentoring and coaching experience. My teaching subjects are English, social studies, health, art, photography, video, science, surfing, skateboarding, basketball and special needs.
We often teach people with special needs water safety and surfing skills in our Hermosa Surf Camp and private surfing lessons.
Many of my in home students have special needs and I am often assigned challenging situations.
I try to get to know a student through careful observation, questions, quizzes, experiments, and tests. Assessment is ongoing and feedback frequent.
We have the student make lists of- their hobbies. new things they want to try, places they have been, places they want to visit, favorite food, college and career choices. That way we can design curriculum around the student’s interests and strengths.
We often use art, sports, music, photography, video, demonstrations and experiments in our teaching to keep it interesting and fun. Stories are often incorporated in our teaching and students are encouraged to create and tell their own stories. We have taught many students how to teach!
